Tip and Notes:
SHOOTING!
Keep it under 2 Minutes or Near Two Minutes.
Audio is Important.
Don't push the button unless its perfect.
We watch TV all of live, we all now what good Video Looks Like.
Not gathering tons of footage, craft the story with the camera.
To make A One Minute Piece shoot 15 - 20 Min (restaurant analogy)
If its not on tape, it didn't happen. Focus on exactly you need to tell the story from the very beginning.
Relax, eliminate the un-needed stuff.
99.9% will all go away. leaving only a small sliver.
Make every shot is perfect, take your time to look at it and make sure!
Start with the camera away, sit for twenty Minutes list seven concrete events you would "have to shoot to tell the story".
Interviews and sound bytes make boring Television.
Let instinct take you to the action, hold shot for 10.
DO NOT MOVE THE CAMERA!
Act of Filming is the act of putting action on the screen....
Follow the instinct to show where the motion is coming from. hold for 10.
Then the whole/ wide for 10 .
Example of chopping carrots: 10 hands, 10 Face, 10 whole, Side 10, over shoulder 10. DONE! All instinct to your eyes.
You can do more but all you need is just this for a colorful piece!
Shooting is a Physical sport! You have to be in the right place to get the Best shot, look to what is coming next and be ready.
DO NOT direct the shot/stop action/Move, they look directed and there is a legal Liability! The only way to learn it is to do it!
Focus and bring it to conclusion.
NO ZOOOOM ! Its more a depth of field thing. On wide you have infinite focus, when zoomed in you collapse it!
Interviews and Sound-bites: If instinctively you need to ask a question just do it. Do not do a sit down/formal interview, they are fake and boring. keep it spontaneous.
Five shots with no questions.
EDITING:
MIssed some info but to recap it...
Edit you Individual shots down: Kitchen example, (CHOPPING FOOD) (WASHING DISHES)... Also collect sound bites..
Then Craft the Story in the time line.
Start with your best Shot, Most exciting! let it create the drama/conflict/interest.
Script writing is not about the idea in your head. Its the back and forth dialogue between you and the audience.
Tell it like you would in real life, to your friends family, others..... You start by getting their attention!
STORY TELLING IS DIALOGUE... Get their attention, and then what happened, and then what happened....The story will go where it wants to go.
Story goes where it wants to go.
